I also thought you were going to say you would have dated her. LOL
LOL! That's what I thought, too!
In fact, OP's thread seems almost borderline obsessive (about his son's girl). I'm thinking perhaps daddy-o may have more vested interest here than he's letting on.
It very well could be another reason, or the biggest reason, why momma is not happy with girlfriend.
Women seem to have a sixth sense about such things. And she IS the kind of female the OP goes for (like wife/momma).
^^ Not only that, but OP, have you tried using logic in regards to sonny working? After all, if you had not begun your schooling and working at his age, she would not be living the cushy life she is now. Or does logic just go woosh! over her head?
He IS in college, so it's not like he's not doing anything with his life. How about he start looking for a job for the summer now (full time)? It will take him some time to find a job and that way mom won't be able to complain about him working while in school.

About what? The job? I think you should point out the advantages of him having a job to him. He would have his own money to spend, build a work history, build his credit. He is an adult and your wife can't stop him from getting a job. Leave her out of it.
