It's weird when people in their 50's or older that will walk up to me in public like they have known me all their life. I guess they can relate to me because of my age of 54. And younger people don't want to talk to me in public because I think I remind them of their parents.

I think they see some similarities what they have already in you may be because you all in a boat of 50-60, if a 20 year old will see you yeah definitely see their father through you. And also possible that young people not interested in men from age 54. So you are saying?
We all grow older at some point. Stop worrying about you get older and enjoy the moments you have. Life is short my friend. But here in The Netherlands your age is middle age, after 67yrs they say old because they get their pension
I think what is making me think like this is I'm living in a college town and living next to college dorms. I will say I'm glad to be alive because I know of some people never made it to 54.

Bolded: Not always true. I had some nice, fun conversations lately while on the subway with young women in the 18-22 range. All approached or sat next to me, smiled and started talking. I only take it about once a week and it doesn't happen all that often but it does happen.
I get around and I never had anyone come up to me to start a conversation like that. While out on my almost daily walk around a somewhat popular lake most of them look straight at the ground. The younger people (mostly women) are a lot more friendlier.
I'm well into my 50s....
