I had an awkward encounter with the gas station attendant last night. Around 8:15pm (yes, it was dark), I stopped to get some gas. Several of the pumps were out of regular (which is what I need), so once I found the one I wanted. I stopped, got my wallet out, and headed inside to pay for it $20. The gas station attendant was right at the door waiting for me (he was behind the counter on his computer when I pulled in). What the heck was that about? While I was pumping, another lady pulled in but he didn't get up to greet her at the door. Has anyone ever experienced this?
I asked a friend and she says he probably thought I was going to rob him.
In my experience, the best way to find out why someone did something is to ask THEM. No one else could even give a good guess without being part of the actual situation.
Oh there's no telling why he was there - maybe he had to do something elsewhere in the store and just opened the door for you out of courtesy since he was standing close by anyway. Who knows? Why assume the worst?
I don't see this as particularly awkward. Several reasons come to mind for why an attendant might stand up and come around the counter. It was dark and he couldn't see who was pumping gas so he got up to look. His back hurts when he sits or stands too long and he feels better when he moves around. He was on his way to the restroom. He was hot and wanted some fresh air.
Someone stood up. Why does it matter why he did it, and why does there have to be a reason?
