The older I get the more difficult it is to suffer the stupidity and rudeness that surrounds me in society. People just bother me to no end.

1) People that go out of their way to make as much noise as they possibly can. The "Harley posers", the young punks with the fart cans on their little cars, the loud stereo systems, the pickup trucks that these old rednecks can't seem to drive without them "sounding right" and others that just don't seem to respect the rights of others to have peaceful enjoyment of life.

2) The plain old rude ignorant people that wear clothing in public with cuss words or near pornographic pictures on them. I saw a fat old idiot with a shirt saying "The original Bad *****" on it today, I have seen people with shirts on at the store with the "f" word on them. Do we want young parents to have to explain what that means to a child that sees it?

3) People are showing WAY TOO MUCH of their junk in public. Nobody seems to wear a belt these days and there is too much "crack" being exposed out there. I wish people would have a little bit of modesty when they go out in public.

4) People don't seem to have any common sense these days. Every time I go to the store I see couples and families that seem to think they HAVE to walk side by side down the grocery aisle and seem surprised when someone comes in the other direction. They don't seem to have enough sense to step aside. I see idiots all the time pull up to the gas pump at a station and stop at the first pump they come to instead of the last pump. They don't even CONSIDER that someone else might want to get gas and will have to back into the pump in order to do it- WAKE UP!

5) People that *** on cell phones and use other electronic devices while driving. Your little conversation is worth someone else's life? You are willing to risk killing another person in order to *** on the phone while attempting to drive?

So, how do you deal with all this in our society without going insane? How do you overlook the "in your face" violation of your right to quiet enjoyment of life and being forced to see things you don't want to see?

Tolerance is key. Very important when you live in a world that has people different from you.

For me, I've come to see that if there's something I know I can't handle, I just avoid it. I don't allow it to impact my life negatively.

Sometimes a smaller town looks rather appealing. Kids have always been kids but it seems that now the people having the most of them aren't raising them to have any sort of manners.

I don't care about people wearing inappropriate or revealing clothes, that's actually something that doesn't bother me in the least - people are free to wear whatever they want, it doesn't affect me in any way, I actually find it amusing when I see those 15 year old boys trying to look cool with the xxxxl pants falling off their butts, or girls squeezed into clothes five sizes too small with muffin tops everywhere. They think they look awesome, which is just funny.

Now, things that pose a personal risk to me, like the phones while driving, do p*ss me the hell off, as do simply aggressive drivers, the ones who think rules don't apply to them and that they can get away with whatever they want like driving out from a driveway without looking or yielding, cut you off etc. Another pet peeve is people who think rules don't apply to them in other aspects of life too and will go out of their way to argue why they're entitled to special treatment.
I found the best way to respond to a situation which directly affects me is to never be openly rude in return or lose your temper, I always keep a polite civil tone and I find people respond better to it, like if someone's blocking the aisle in the store it's always better to smile politely and say 'I'm sorry, could I just squeeze through here" then rudely growling "excuse me!". Hostility will only breed hostility in return. If someone's being an ass on the road though and endangering me I don't hesitate to honk and make a 'what the hell is wrong with you' gesture if they can see me, lol.

The lack of common sense in today's society baffles me to no end. Not to mention the laziness and entitlement as well. Ugh, don't get me started.

They don't have these problems in North Korea. Maybe the government ought to get involved.

Never claimed I wanted a "solution", I asked how people deal with it for their own well being. Thanks for trying to hijack the thread though....

I guess most of us aren't hypersensitive or don't have hang ups about what people wear or most of us don't live on a main drag surrounded by bikers and rice burner cars with chopped mufflers.

Rude behavior bugs me, lack of common sense, too, even though I guess it's relative. Where I used to live, it seemed epidemic.

The older I get, the more they annoy me. But it's only for a moment. I steer clear and move on.
