Except for the gifts and decorations, is there really that much difference between the two holidays nowadays?

They are both family oriented. They involve a nice dinner (maybe turkey's not on the plate again though).

How do you see it?

I'd rather do Thanksgiving but only with people I know real well.

I have a hard time leaving out the "Christ" in Christmas. Don't even get me started on the traditional "music." I find many of the lyrics offensive to me. I still consider it a religious holiday and I am as far away from religion than anyone I have ever known....

I consider the difference between the two large for the reasons I outlined.

You say "except for the gifts and the decorations" as if those aren't a significant part.

For us, Thanksgiving is about the meal and Christmas is about the presents for the kids. We don't celebrate Christian holidays but my kids definitely enjoy the secular idea of the holiday.

Same two fake holidays I want nothing to do with to me.

For me personally that's true. I know some go to church on Christmas and such but I don't so the only real difference is that I have to buy gifts and get some in return. But both are about eating and seeing family.

Once you are an adult, all the holidays blend together. So to an adult, it might seem like they are the same holiday, essentially. But when kids are involved...its like apples and oranges

We also celebrate Christmas over several days. From shopping, wrapping, holiday music in the car, looking at christmas lights, decorating, bringing home a tree, winter themed activities...its really a several week long process. Not just "a day". Where thanksgiving is really "a day" to us...actually, its more like "a meal?

Thanksgiving is a bigger deal for me, but I love Christmas music, so that helps. Christmas is just stressful and really destroyed.

I prefer Thanksgiving over Christmas any day. For me, Christmas has gotten so stressful. People tend to forget about what the idea of Christmas really is.

I have to honestly say that, until recently, I never knew how very many non-christian people celebrated Christmas. I don't get it... why? So the kiddies don't feel left out when their friends talk about gifts?

I'm not particularly religious at all, but Christmas is about something totally different than Thanksgiving.

They are what you make them.
