OP, to be blunt - your friend is a pathetic P.O.S., and doesn't deserve your time. Don't hang around and/or be friends with people who bring you down. Life is too short.
I've never been in the situation you describe, but I have broken off friendships with toxic people in the past. When I've done so, it's as if a great weight were lifted off my shoulders - i.e., it was a great feeling!!
Asides for that, she's an awesome friend. But I think this is something I will always have to put up with. It's okay for her to brag, boast, say weird comments but if I do it, complete hell on Earth.
You've been putting up with this for too long to see it for the abuse it is. And it is abusive. You will never be allowed to be better than her and, heaven forbid, you DO rise above her in some way, she will drop you like a hot rock, because that will threaten her too much.
Only insecure people always have to compare themselves to others.
