I'm gay and used to hate the word 'gay'. I never liked referring to myself as such. I think it's because I sometimes felt a little.. shocked? Kind of like - 'Wow, I'm gay. What are the odds of that happening?'
I don't mind now though.
haha i'm lesbian and I don't like the word lesbian....it just sounds so....LESBIANNNNN
I'm another who doesn't like the word. Don't know why, but to me it triggers the same reaction in my brain as if someone used the N word. It just sounds insulting.
Didn't lesbian fall out of favor in favor of gay? One time homosexual was the term everybody used, then it became a bad word and was replaced by gay. I am sure gay's time will come to. BTW, you may not like lesbian but people pay good money to watch them.
No to all of those.
Gay is used for both genders, but "lesbian" which refers only to females, is still widely used and it narrows the demographic. There's no male gender equivalent so people just say "gay men."
"Homosexual" never became a bad word, its just that its the formal way to refer to gay people. Human beings often prefer to use more casual, less scientific words to describe people. Part of why "white" is more often used than "Caucasoid/caucasian," even in legal/formal settings.
I don't see "gay" going anywhere, considering the LGBT demographic has zero problem using the word. It's like as if "white" or "black" stopped being used. You can use "caucasian" all you want, it won't replace "white" as the most commonly used word for the race of indigenous European people.
And lastly, who pays for porn anymore? Tumblr exists.
You're right, you don't hear people who are straight announcing that choice. For some reason the trend now is to reveal if you're part of the LGBT community; maybe they're hoping to find comrades and bond with someone?
Here's a thought. It's a little crazy, a little novel to some people, but hear me out. Maybe, just maybe, it's not a choice at all? Maybe straight people are born straight and GASP gay people are too! Ohh, what a crazy novel concept, I know! I best be careful, for I may be burnt like a witch for my radical views!
