Well, I get a call the other night from a co-worker/sometime hangout buddy while I was at home, that she was totally broke and needed some money to help her get through the week. I was definitely skeptical, because she lives with her parents and I don't see why she couldn't ask them for some money, but either way, I was well off so I didn't mind giving her some. I offered to give her 20 bucks and that I would be over to her house in a while since I wanted to get out anyways. She was like, no, just western union the money to her. I'm not going to spend an extra 5 bucks to send her 20 dollars to her account. Then she started to cop and attitude with me about it, and then I was like, forget it now.
But why would someone want me to send money western union instead of just giving them the money in cash? This has me all paranoid with what kind of scam can be involved. I know a lot of people at work don't trust her, in that she will throw anyone she can under the bus to try and get a promotion, but what kind of dirty things could a co-worker do with a western union that could get someone else in trouble?

She isn't at her house, she is out somewhere getting high or...
She knows that you will expect something in return, even if it's just her conversation or time and all she wants from you is the $$$.
Do people who only need $20 to make it that week have jobs that include promotions?

Why are you still friends with this person? It sounds like she is a user, in all senses of that word.
I don't think there is a scam involving WU, but I guess yeah, she isn't at home. Or is, with her drug dealer. IDK that was just imagination. If I had an emergency while at home and you offered to bring it, I'd be grateful unless you lived far and I wanted to save you the trip. Of course paying you pack the $5 fee too.

Decent people don't ask acquaintances for money. They might ask a close friend, esp if they have loaned the close friend money before.
Don't be a sucker, an easy mark. Whether you have extra money or not is beside the point. She knows you have it, or she wouldn't have called you. She also thinks of you as a soft touch.
If the $20 can get her out of your life because she would avoid you in order to no repay you, that would definitely be worth it. People like that aren't good to be around. They'll just try to milk you until you're dry then move on to the next person.
