These people are insane. Do they not have families or lives outside of work? My guess is no, and if they do have families they are dying to get away from them for some reason. I'd laugh in their faces, I'm sure they'd get the picture.

Yes, I traveled with my office workers often for both business and pleasure. To this day, my former boss is one of my very best friends and we still travel often together.

Why all the drama?
Just don't go.

Exactly. Especially since the OP already has plans. Simply say "I'm sorry, I already have travel plans that weekend." Problem solved.

In one of my jobs about 10 years ago we had a bus trip once a year with two overnight stays where we had to share the hotelroom with a coworker. I went once. Never again.

I am not the most social person so for me it was extremely stressful. I felt like I was in highschool again - choose the right person to sit with in the bus/dinner/hotel. Be funny. If you are not funny enough, people wonder. If you are too funny, people wonder. If you don't drink, people wonder. If you drink too much, people wonder. NOPE. Never again.

The other times I didn't go. I always had legit excuses. Of course when they come back you are kinda out of the loop and they have bonded more. And all the stories/gossip about who said/did what ... I was always glad I didn't go.

I like my coworkers usually but spending all day with them at work is enough. I don't need to see them on my time off.

An overnight trip with coworkers? Uh no, just no! Vehemently NO! Just the thought of is nightmare inducing. A group outing - fun. A group lunch - fun. A group round at the bar - fun. An overnight trip? Serious overload.

These people must really love each other.

Who knows - it may be a bunch of posturing and overzealous team building, but occasionally things just gel. I've had a lot of jobs, and have not really gotten close with anyone but at one employer.

We started off about five people in a satellite office, growing to a little over ten. Now I wasn't personally close with all of them, but everyone got along well with each other, and five of them are on my Facebook. These were people I liked and would have spent time with had they been coworkers or not.

I am screwed because they have set up a calendar where we can all choose a weekend in the future that works for all of us!

Even the partners are considering going. We are not a large group so my absence would be very noticeable.

I just don't get it...we spend so much time together already!!! I am not married to these people. WTF???????

Is the company footing the bill for this overnight shin-dig? That would be the only way I *might* consider going.
