If you just said "Look, my workday is long and once I get home there's a list of more things I must get done, so the only peaceful time of solitude I look forward to is the ride home. I need my quiet time back....please respect that and find a ride from someone else."
the best way to stop was to never have of started it in the first place.
there is one of my neighbors that lives in my building and I literally work 20 blocks down from him. I drive, he takes a bus to the subway.
I like him, and we are friend from the building. But I never say oh, we work so close, I can take you instead of you taking a bus and a train,m
I learned the hard way that people will take advantage of you if you let them. I used to give rides to a guy (I'll call him "Joe"), and after enough time it became obvious that he presumed himself to be entitled to my services. And if I wasn't available, he would call another mutual friend. And if this second guy agreed to drive, Joe would dictate the terms of when to arrive, where to stop for food, etc. If we don't take control of the situation, it will go on forever.
