And a note thanking your hostess for the hospitality the next day is a good move.

Sure, bring something.

Flowers are nice. Some people bring plants. Or something that relates to her interests, like a little book.

Flowers. Don't bring food if she said no.

I love it when someone brings me a hostess gift. And I always try to bring something when I go to a friend's house. Doesn't have to be consumable or floral; anything you think they might like is nice. A pretty chatchke, or a nifty gadget, depending on your hosts. One friend brought me a knife sharpener. Works great, I love it.

Odd, I've read the thread as well and didn't find that apparent at all. But I do find that when one goes into threads with the mindset of looking for something to be upset about, they do often find what they seek.

I think I'm the only person on the planet who does not like it when guest brings me hostess gifts. Unless I've asked for something specific for the meal, I'd rather you not bring me anything. Not flowers, plants, bottles of wine, or anything.

Same here. I can't see it happening but if my guests brought me flowers, it would be a waste of money as they would be straight in the trash after the party. No room for displaying them and if we did have room, the cats would just get into them. We don't even own a vase. Maybe it's an age and region thing? I am 27 and none of my friends buy or display cut flowers or have plants in their houses or apartments other than maybe a succulent or 2.

I just remembered another thing I appreciated a guest bringing. I have a cappuccino machine and i really liked when one of my guests brought some nice locally roasted coffee beans. It made for good conversation and the rest of the guests really enjoyed it.
