Does anyone else find this a little offensive?

I joined a meetup for women but turns out it’s only for black women.

I would never dream of starting a meetup group for whites only.

Just curious..

Not offensive to me, a white woman. Meetup groups are affinity groups. I imagine black women face problems I never have, or will have, to face.

No, I don't. (White woman.)

You're working on some false equivalency issue here.

A quick perusal of your user name and short history here shows me you are pretty easily irritated by other humans. Maybe you are equal opportunity prickly, I don't know.

But now, I will do as your user name suggests.

I would only find it offensive if there was nothing in the title or description of the group that indicated that it was geared toward black women before you joined. However if you knew that it was and still joined, what’s the problem?

I didn’t know. I joined and was told I could not because I’m not black. I see people as people. Not by their race so I’m surprised people want to exclude others based on that

Thank you for the different outlooks everyone.

I don't think it's offensive, there are meet-up groups for female programmers, should the men be offended?

There are no men-only programmer meet-up groups (that I'm aware of) because... maybe it's obvious..

Well, that’s rude. They should’ve made it clear what the group was about.

Based on your additional information that there was no indication in the title or description of the group, I apologize to you for my assumption.

Surely you are aware, however, that often a question of this sort then leads to [example] – "We're all equal, so why is Black Entertainment Television allowed but not White Entertainment Television?"

I jumped to a conclusion.

I still do not find a group designated specifically for black women offensive. Unfortunately, there are still existing issues in this country that may make it necessary for that particular group.

I'm not black, I would not find offensive but I wouldn't bother to look into it either. I attend functions specifically for women all the time so I don't see how that is any different. If you live your whole life confined to such groups I could see that being pretty limiting. I'm sure the people in the group do other things too.
