I think LRoyal and I just told you. Hurricane Fran hit the Triangle head on in 1996. Tons of trees fell down. Power was out for over a week in many places. It killed 24 people including 4 in Wake Co according to WRAL. If you lived through that you pay close attention to the radar when there's a hurricane on the NC coast.

CD has a forum dedicated to Hurricane discussion under the Weather forum.
I pulled this off that forum.

Ill admit I am fascinated by them and sometimes hope for them in September except this year. We do not need anymore rain. I know the Triad is 6 inches above normal, I cant imagine how saturated the coastal plain is.

We received the outer bands for Floyd as the hurricane was as about as wide as this state is and I love how the air feels after it ends . It feels o tropical but the air is so clean.

Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30. Hurricane Hugo in 1989 made landfall in South Carolina, hit CHARLOTTE, NC and caused major devastation. Gulf storms can cause flooding in the mountains. Our WORST hurricanes have historically hit in Sept. & Oct., but they can hit any time during the "season."
