Good morning all!. I have read this forum many times to get information but never posted on it for myself. I am a bit nervous about my family's relocation. My husband was recently asked about relocating. We thought we were going to be placed in Atlanta, where we know people. The company had other plans for us. They want my husband to work at the plant in Dudley, NC instead. I have never been to NC and am really excited about the move just know nothing about it. From what I have gathered, Dudley is in the middle of nowhere. We have an 18 month old daughter and a son due in September. We would love a family friendly place to live with a lot to do. My husband is fine with commuting to work about 30 minutes. I have seen that Goldsboro is the closest to Dudley but have seen very mixed reviews about the crime rates there. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're open to a longer commute you might consider Clayton, NC. There are tons of threads from happy transplants who have relocated to Clayton in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) forum. It would be about 45 min - 1 hr from Dudley. I agree that Dudley is pretty much in the middle of nowhere Eastern NC. Goldsboro or Kinston, maybe Mt Olive, would be your closest towns of a little size.

Selma or Smithfield might also be worth looking at. However, I agree that Clayton has more of the nice suburban developments, like Flowers Plantation and Riverwood.

Well, you can sure smell Nowhere from there.

How specialized is your husbands job?
How long do they expect you to stay put?

As of now we aren't sure of how long we will be staying there. We were told that it would be a great starting point to move up very quickly in the company. We are thinking a year or two, maybe even longer if everything works out. It's all kind of up in the air right now.
