Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I are looking to move to Charlotte or very close to Charlotte in 2016. We currently live in Philadelphia. I'm a masters level social worker and work for a company who often have positions open in other states including NC and SC, so I can transfer. We visited the city over the thanksgiving holiday and as soon as I returned home I was ready to go back. My question is where is a good place to live? I know uptown is nice and south Charlotte. How about Rock HIll, SC? Any suggestions?

Near your job. Its a large, spread out area...you could wind up with a long, tedious commute if you decide on a place to live without knowing where you will be working. You also need to think about (and state) what kind of living environment you want. City excitement? Suburban quiet? Are schools an issue? Whats your budget? Rent? Buy? New house? Old house? Lot size? Condo?

I agree with carolinadawg's questions. Having come down to the area from Cherry Hill I'll add Philadelphia-specific questions. Is public transportation availability important to you? Do you want historic areas near, do you want to live in them, or don't you care? Are you looking for a big difference in weather & cost of living?

What kind of work would your boyfriend be looking for, or can he also transfer or bring his own job?

I'm from N.Philly too.
When I first moved here I lived outside of Charlotte "maybe 20mins away" in stallings. Nice there a Lil over the budget if your looking for something cheap, but quite and beautiful. Indian trails is nice , I now live in the Yorkshire area of south Charlotte. My overall, I love the cities up north by far wayyyy better but Charlotte is a nice place to raise a family. Good luck though

Labor jobs here / down south period suck compared to pay & laboring to up north. Most low end labor jobs want be enough for a good so called life, but its a start I guess. They need unions down here. In Philly McDonald's been making like $10 so why in the hell these jobs down here still trying to pay $8 or so for harder labor.
