^ I truly do not know where to tell you to look for a job. Las Vegas, Arizona, Texas and even here in NC all needed teachers desperately within the last couple years and are now looking at hiring freezes. Charlotte Meck announced they will cut 330+ positons, 66 being K-3 teachers.
I haven't heard much, but last year Maryland and Northern Virginia (where the cost of living is super high- outside of DC) needed teachers.
If you are an educator and you move here for the money, you are making a huge mistake. I work as a counselor at the certfied rate, so same cup of tea. I moved here because I love it here, certainly not for the high wages. I consider my job something to do, to keep me from growing old, as financially I could have retired years ago. I work because I enjoy it and enjoy helping troubled youth.
The reason we want to move to NC is because over here in Miami,Fl it's getting really bad. Traffic is horrible and just the people are rude and crime is increasing. We just want to live in a place where we can be comfortable. Being teachers anywhere in this country we know that the pay is not going to be sufficient for a wealthy lifestyle, but we are not looking for that. We want to live in a place where people are friendly and also where traffic and crime are a minimum. I've been to NC many times and have loved it, but i just want to know if its worth living there while being a teacher? And if not NC, does anyone have any suggestions where i can go and live the lifestyle we want?
Other places may seem great but you also have to take inconsideration the cost of living.

If you will go to North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, you will find the salary schedule, but know that it may differ by county depending on the supplement. Good Luck
I am a second teacher in NC and my local supplement is only abut 1200, for the entire year. Pay isn't that great but it pays the bills. I even have a masters and the pay increase doesn't seem to help much. Only an extra $3000 a year. I am looking to move to another state so I can actually have money to save.
