Back in 90's my job required that I travel to Charlotte on a monthly basis. During those trips, I happen to visit Asheville a few times. Back then it seemed like the Biltmore estate was far removed from the city and downtown Asheville was fairly small.
Last week I vacationed in Asheville. Wow, the changes!
Now it seems the Biltmore estate and (new?) Biltmore Village are just a suburb of Asheville. And the city has become the largest gathering of hipsters and ironic shops and restaurants outside of Portland. WTF?
Asheville is the Paris of the South. It's a very popular tourist destination, and people are still moving there believing the city is a fit for their dreams to become successful in the arts and small business.

I am not sure what "Paris of the South" means.
I live in France five months a year, but I cannot think of one way that Asheville compares to Paris.
It also has become the Eastern Brewing and Micro Brew Capital. Sierra Nevada from California, and New Belgium Brewing from Colorado have huge operations there and supply beer to the eastern half of the country form Asheville. There are also a plethora of smaller Micro Breweries.
Asheville has become another millennial hipster choke point.
Thats hardly news.
