I am ready to retire, I am planning on moving from Richmond, Virginia to Charlotte, north Carolina. Can someone give me some I might on the best areas in and around Charlotte. I don't necessarily want to live in the heart of Charlotte, but some where close by 20 to 30 miles. I would even consider a retirement community. I love, theater and peaceful neighborhoods.

What kind of theater? Community theater? Do you want to be involved?
Not a universal truth. One can find many locations in the Charlotte region in NC that are equal to or lower than SC for the highlighted items.
Just the facts. Income taxes are less, RE taxes for retired if you are a homeowner are less, gas is less $$, electricity rates are less, no tax on unprepared food, sales tax capped at $300 for motor vehicle purchase, personal property auto taxes are less, and sales tax is a wash.

I really doubt that you've checked those costs for every municipality within 30 miles of Charlotte on the North Carolina side of the border. Kings Mountain and Concord no longer get their electricity from Duke and my electric rates are down this year, locked into a 10 year contract.
