Yippee! All I need is a van, some homeless folks and a copy of county property records and we can vote as anyone all day long in as many counties as we want!
If you are opposed to being honest about your identity you may want to re-examine your moral center. Any system can be compromised and to pretend otherwise is willful blindness. I'm sorry that a person in Texas could not be bothered to correct a misspelled birth certificate for 50 years but that doesn't mean someone gets to pretend to be me on election day.
Publicly available voter registration databases make identity theft a real issue. We don't need to make it worse by allowing anyone to vote as whomever they want with no verification. You may as well have them pinky swear.

If you think its ok to deny certain poor and minority citizens their constitutionally protected right to vote you may want to re-examine your elitist and racist beliefs.

What are your opinions on the absentee ballot fraud in the 9th district?

Thanks for the name calling! It is not racist or elitist to expect people to be honest about who they are. It is not racist or elitist to expect that critical documents should be corrected if there is an error. It is not racist or elitist to expect adults to act like adults.
This idea that the poor and minorities are too feeble to get an ID or that they should not be expected to make an effort at being an adult is hogwash.

I hope everyone involved gets lots of jail time not just in the 9th district but in any district where voter fraud is present regardless of party affiliation. That still doesn't mean people shouldn't have to prove they are who they say they are.

Great post.
In a way, it could be considered racist and elitist to assume that poor people and minorities are too feeble minded to understand what is required to be eligible to vote, or that they are too lazy to go out and get proper identification.
But, that kind of typical, cliched "name calling" always arises when people don't know how to legitimately debate or provide well-thought out reasoning or alternatives in legitimate discussions.
They just want to shut it down. It just goes nowhere then, and that's a shame.
There is tons of research out there showing that election fraud in the USA is VERY rare. Isn't it obvious that this is done for political gain because voting restrictions and the claims about voter fraud are all Republican-backed? They know very well that poor people and minorities (higher % of minorities are in fact also poor) vote Democrat. So these voter restrictions are nothing but the way for Republicans to dampen the voter turn out.
Those of you saying that it's racist for others to say that poor/minorities can't get their voter IDs are missing the point. This has nothing to do with one's intelligence, motivation, etc. People who work two or three jobs and take public transportation to get everywhere, can't just leave everything and get an ID, if theirs has expired... etc. Also, let's be honest, people who do not vote (because they are lazy or do not care) aren't going to vote regardless your Voter IDs, or other laws they either make it easier or harder to vote. It's indeed these regular, the working poor, the people who survive from one pay check to another, those who take extra job to put food on the table -- those are the ones we are talking about here. Do you really think they are going to go out of their way to get an ID? No. And, that's what these laws want to accomplish.

It doesn't matter how rare it is, I want it to be zero or as close to zero as possible. Some of these races are becoming really tight and can be one by very few votes. Political stereotyping aside, many of the people you describe in your 2nd paragraph already have an ID, otherwise how are they driving to work? How are they cashing checks and filling out I-9 forms? There were provisions to provide free or low-cost IDs and there's a whole slew of groups that exist to help people get registered to vote. There's no excuse.
