Ok I saw on the news that Chemical production and Mining are becoming North Carolina top industries for production but I cannot figure out what are they mining?
I know rock quarry is a very large industry in this state and probably with everyone need to have Granite in their homes that it probably big as well, I know natural gas mining is huge for the area. When I search internet all I am finding is gem mining and old gold mines. I cannot see coal being an item due to low deposits Hopefully there will be no off shore oil mining. Anyone have a clue what it could be?

Phosphates....and sulfers......big operation in Craven and pamlico co. If you have ever been to morehead city and smelled that bad stench, thats where they ship it out..
I will have to spend some time to learn what each of these are used for.
I would never though that there would be coal deposits in the location showing on the map. Great info.
I know of a Marl (Mudstone) mine about halfway between New Bern and Jacksonville. Marl is mostly just calcium carbonate and mud all mushed together and dried out. Mostly, people just use it as road gravel or to adjust soil pH... and that's all I have to say about that.
Excellent map...sure glad that nothing is being mined in Sampson County
