It depends on what you mean by '4 seasons' I suppose. Today it's middle 30's here, well below average highs, but I'd call that winter...lol. Summers are generally mild, 100 degree temps are rare (last year I think 90's were rare), spring and fall are beautiful.
Neednewhouse is spot on with areas to look. I'd add Troutman and areas up Old Mountain Road - Google maps should help you find Old Mountain Road.
I have a niece who shows horses and gives riding lessons, saddlebreds, and her barn is between Huntersville and Concord. Just FYI.
My wife and I are moving from Arizona to NC this summer. She is a high school chemistry teacher so our location is going to be based on the best offer she gets. It looks like Mooresville is one of the major openings. BUT, we want to live away from the city.
Don't mind an hour commute as long as we don't have to hear helicopters flying over and sirens at night. I also have horses so I need a little land.
Is Mooresville just where people THINK they are moving to the country?
In other words, we don't mind the neighbor(s) having cows, goats, chickens, etc, (and in fact would prefer it) as long as the city wont be encroaching any time soon.
Wow, I'm wondering where you live currently that you would hear helicopters and sirens every night - south central LA by any chance? That would certainly not be the norm anywhere in the state of NC, unless of course you lived near to Carolinas Medical Center and heard their chopper leaving and returning with critical care patients. Oh, and yes, you will hear helicopters if you are in Concord on big race days at Lowes Motor Speedway. Sometimes big wigs will be helicoptered to the speedway so they don't have to sit in all that traffic!
Seriously, since you obviously want a more rural lifestyle why not look further away from the Charlotte metro area? I would suggest starting with Troutman but go even further north to Taylorsville. Schools in NC always need good chemistry teachers. More rural areas would be tickled pink to get an experienced one Good luck!
Mooresville is a great up and coming area! I work for a national home builder and would be happy to supply any information needed about Mooresville and what communities we build there!
Grew up in the Phoenix area when it was still just farm fields, citrus trees and tumbleweeds. Now it is just as big as L.A. and still growing. Everyone is moving here thinking it's the Old West. It is no longer.
As far as the 4 seasons, my wife grew up in up state New York and wants to get back to the winter (snow), spring (new grass poking up), summer (warm enough to be in shorts and t-shirt), fall (the leaves changing colors right before they tumble to the ground).
As I said, we don't mind an hour commute as long as the growth isn't headed where we move to.
The suggestions so far are appreciated and will be further checked when we come out to "scout" next month.
I hope you like yankees... If youre moving to this area for the southern hospitality wrong move.
