When first I moved here I couldn't believe how many I saw. There are 10 times more than in PA.

Yes, I'm sure that's correct.

Why is a personalized license plate considered vain? I think they are fun, just another accessory to personalize your car. I have one, I like it very much. The money goes to rest areas and road beautification, so thats a decent use of my tax money, imo. I feel kinda sad for someone who gets angry or upset at seeing a vanity plate.

I don't consider all, or even most of them "vain", but it depends on the "message". If it's related to a team, slogan, funny thing, etc, than no problem. But if it's clearly "self" oriented, like a name or initials, or even "MY4KIDS" or something else related to "ME ME ME", then yeah, I consider them "vain".

The most obnoxoius: a new Saab - plate = SNAAB
A pretty funny one: a VW Passatt - plate = VDUBYA

I always thought there were kind of a lot here. I just got one myself. Compared to where I've lived before, the $30 was really cheap.

I had one when I was young, single, and driving a hot sports car. I don't care for it now.
