Random RTP thoughts..
  • RTP is not just in Durham County. It's also in Wake. Urban never mentions that fact.
  • RTP's influence reaches far beyond the 40K+ who work in its proper boundaries. It influences the entire economy of the region. Satellite parks that are private surround it.
  • Centennial Campus at NC State is definitely a sister to RTP but in a much more urban development friendly location and model
  • The RTP ecosystem of the Triangle is paramount to the area's ability to attract some of the most highly educated and skilled professionals in the nation.
  • RTP is responsible for retaining many of NC's brightest university graduates as they find viable career paths in NC.
  • RTP's location was established to be easily accessible to NC State, UNC-CH and Duke.

Thank you for all the responses. There's so much that I did not know about these two cities, and there's a lot of info to digest. For now, it is still difficult to see which place is better "for us". Each city has its good and bad points, and we just have to find where we will fit in best and where "our future" will best grow.

We like both Raleigh and Charlotte for their own strengths but still have to figure out what would be best for "us". I guess we will have to look at them more closely now, having so much more info to consider thanks to your input.

Raleigh is projected to grow faster than any other US city between now and 2025.

{Raleigh Investment Real Estate is well positioned. Check this out, Raleigh is projected to grow faster than any other major metropolitan area with an anticipated 97% population growth between now and 2025. Even now with the current economy we have seen nearly 3-4%, and this is now suggesting that it will be steady as she goes with 3.5% for the next 16 years.......}

We don't want it in Wake, either! TWICE the number of cars on the roads, and people in lines at stores as there already are now?

Jesus wept...

Perhaps the loss of all the Wachovia jobs has affected things some. It's definitely not a "crawl", unless there's an accident.

Both are good cities, but Raleigh/Cary/Durham/Chapel Hill.

From the link above -

The three-county Raleigh metro will virtually double its population during the study period. It had 953,000 residents in 2005, but should be closing in on 1.9 million by 2025.
Again are we talking about the city of Charlotte vs the city of Raleigh or the metro areas.

I'm genuinely confused, LOL

You should not compare Charlotte & Raleigh. It takes several areas "Triangle" (Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill & others)...and you still have a smaller population than 1 city "Charlotte".

Of course Wake county is going to surpass Mecklenburg county in population...it is 60% larger in land area.

We moved to Charlotte from Raleigh...and personally I would not move back to Raleigh for $1 million dollars. Just a personal preference.

Living in Raleigh is about equal to living in Greensboro. Not saying Raleigh is a bad place or anything negative...but some people prefer Raleigh & some people prefer Charlotte.

Where in Raleigh can you go outdoor ice skating this time of year? Where in Raleigh can you ride Light Rail? Where in Raleigh can you see professional sports (and Hockey is not big in the South? Where in Raleigh can you shop at IKEA or Louis Vuitton (and not at Macy's either)? Where in Raleigh is there an Indoor Water Park (Rays Splash Planet) or go to an amusement park? Where in Raleigh can you go and watch people from all over the world train for the Olympics (US National Whitewater Center)? Where in Raleigh can you go to catch non-stop flights to several Caribbean & International destinations (RDU is a joke)? Where is your city skyline (Uptown Charlotte is the heart beat of the city). Where in Raleigh can you walk to Ruth Chris, Capital Grille, Mortons or Chima (4 high end steak houses within a few blocks of each other...and the list goes on & on...and even Donald Trump is eyeing Charlotte since his son's best friend & wife live here(trumpcharlotte.com)...wait till the economy turns around...there is NO stopping the Queen city of Charlotte.

Anyone who thinks Raleigh will ever catch Charlotte is dreaming...sure Raleigh is going to boom in the next decade...do you think Charlotte is gonna stay stagnant? Doubt it!

But seriously...why don't you go and spend a weekend in downtown Raleigh...and then go stay a weekend in Uptown Charlotte (lets compare apples to apples)...and she which one you prefer

Good Luck!
