I am looking into different communities in North and South Dakota and Minot seems to be quite economically healthy.
Are the jets and planes from the Air Force Base very loud and at all hours of the night?
The jets are indeed loud - but fortunately, the air force base is located a few miles north of Minot - so you don't have to worry about very much noise within the city limits. At least, no worse than any city that has an airport.
Yes, i see, but the reason to move to ND or SD would be to escape all that urban noise. I dont want to suffer through endless winters in a beautiful peaceful state to have jets zooming over head like Chicago.

THank you.
You'll find that the aircraft here in Minot and at the military base are practically non-significant. As a Minot resident, I can only think of one time of hearing the aircraft. Trains on the other hand, you will hear practically everywhere in ND. This is a farming state, and most crops are shipped by rail. But even then, You won't even notice them.

Are you looking to move north?
Yes, I am looking to move north. I don't mind trains, in fact i love them.
Fighter jets is a different story. I am thinking of moving to either Aberdeen South Dakota or Minot. For me the big things are cultural things do stay sane and cost of living. I'm sure people are friendly in both places.
I have lived in Minot and currently live in Fargo, with relatives I visit regularly in Bismarck. I haven't noticed any issues with Jets always going by, either fighters or commercial.
The area in general is pretty quiet.
I would say also consider bismarck as well. Still has a nice feel to it but lots of jobs there.

THanks.
If I remember correctly, the planes stationed at Minot aren't fast, agile fighters like F-15s/16s/22s, etc. I believe they are B-52s or some other kind of old bombers.

No fighter jets here. Just bombers. Minot is a growing town, population of 33,000 with room to grow. You can go from one end of town to the other in about 20 minutes. ct

I guess my point wasn't as to what kind of jets they were so much as that there is a lot of air traffic. Is it obvious there is a lot of air traffic?
