I was browsing The Shopper and came upon an ad that was for two weeks on one week off job that claimed you get paid 40hrs on the week off. I hear of most oil companies that schedule something like one week on one week off or 2 weeks on 1 week off. My question is .. is this the deal for most companies? Do you generally get paid on that week off?
About 9 months ago I stopped in person at Haliburton here in Williston and asked the HR person some general questions about jobs. Most positions were 2 weeks on and 1 week off. You get paid straight time for 40 hours on the week off. But, this may have changed since earlier this year.
I work in the Bakken with several Haliburton employees. Yes you work 2 weeks on 1 week of GENERALLY. Everything is depended on production and truck availability etc. You do not have control of your own schedule. A common phrase out here is "i'm a slave to your rig". Getting time off is difficult....however the money is amazing. I make $90,000 a year while my husband is pulling in $130,000. We work together as team geologists. We have saved $70,000 in the past two years. My goal is to keep doing this to save a bunch of money so I can afford to be a stay at home when we settle down to have kids. It's hard work but it's worth it.
