P.S. I do not think that Holy Redeemer is superior to the public schools where we lived before. But it is very college focused. That's what we wanted.
A.P. and honors classes are plentiful and there is no over crowding. Lots of personal attention.

Comments? Input into the school district? I know only of test scores at this point, but it gets double the ratings on greatschools/schooldigger/schoolmatters ...

And what communities would be good places to check out?
2 of my kids are in a DelVal elementary school and are doing awesome!!! I have found the staff (principal, teachers, etc.) to be very open and attentive to parents. If I've had an issue that I needed addressed, attention was always prompt. I really can't complain. One is in 4th grade and one in 1st, so far, so good.

If you want another option while you are in the ES district, check out Faith Christian School Roseto. It is a nondenominational Christian school and there is a bus from the East Stroudsburg district.

I cannot say enough about the school. Small classes and top-notch teachers. If fancy facilities are important to you, then skip it, but if you want an awesome education all around, then it's worth a look.

Here are a few of reasons that you might be very interested in getting your kids into DV....and they have nothing to do with PSSA test scores.

Delaware Valley sets record for AP Scholars | PoconoRecord.com

School dollars go furthest at Delaware Valley School District | PoconoRecord.com

Pike County Courier - Magazine rates DV one of the top US high schools - Straus Newspapers

They have a very good early childhood diagnostic proccess. If a child is falling behind for some reason they are pretty good at picking it up and nipping it in the bud.

Instead of buying or renting a home in DV have you considered the possibility of paying tuition to DV to have the kids go there? That *is* an option...I don't know if it would be cheaper or not...but it would take away the issue of having to maintain multiple homes.

Really? That's an option??? I have to research that and find out more! I will report my findings.

Thanks for the suggestion!!

Answering my own question -- apparently it is not an option in DelVal. Just called the district. Sigh. A brief shining moment there.

I have two granddaughters in the ESSD. One is in the high school and the other in the middle school. The older one is in the band and treasurer of the Student Council and is in High Honors.
The younger one made District Band, the only middle schooler to do so. She was 4th. chair. She plays three instruments and is in the jazz band as well. She is in a spelling competition. She is also in High Honors. They are both voracious readers. They are neither rebellious teens nor nerdy geeks.

Anecdotal, I know, but when the parents shine the light on education and the student is focused, well...

I appreciate that it may seem as if I'm tarring the whole district with the same brush. I don't mean to do that - obviously there are hundreds of kids who go through the district and emerge as educated adults with great futures. But I just want the best for my kids, and if I have the ability to give them something more, then I want to try my darndest. Best to you and yours and congrats on a couple of great grandkids!

Sheena is right. There was a huge pregnancy problem when I taught there. When you work on the inside you see quite a bit that the outside does not see. I do not know if things have changed there or not. There are many good teachers there, but the problem is the Admininstrators. I have heard great things about the Elementary School in Milford and Dingmans.

Actually, if there's a huge teen pregnancy problem, its not the fault of the teachers, administrators, janitors, or anyone at the school. The fingers should be pointed at the parents.
