Carbon County has lower taxes than Monroe. Perhaps Matilda will post later on? She has a handle on the better areas to locate in that area.

Of course you probably don't want to stray too far from your wife's mother (or perhaps you do)?

You should check out this link: //www.city-data.com/forum/lehig...residents.html Our moderator posted that 'sticky' on the Lehigh Valley thread.

Good luck and good hunting.

Here I am! Fisheye is correct. Carbon County taxes are considerably lower that Monroe. If you are into outdoor activities, there's a lot to do in the area. Unfortunately, once the sun sets there isn't too much to do so if you're into nightlife, you may be out of luck. If the OP can shed some light on whether or not they have kids, where they'll work, etc. that will help.

for *nice things to do* you have the Poconos (ski resorts, Mt. Airy Casino), Allentown (Great Allentown Fair, Dorney Park, Hershey Park) and further up north you have Lake Wallenpaupack with its amenities...if you want to be closer to your mother-in-law then you should look in that area (Kunkletown), or Saylorsburg, and Wind Gap...
