Living in the Poconos/Northeast PA is another way of advertising that you may have guns in your house. You may also have cash, jewelry, a big screen TV, video game consoles, liquor, prescription painkillers, etc.

I think thieves are pretty stupid in general and they may expect to break in and find guns lying around unlocked. After all, they probably keep their own guns unlocked and lying around in their homes.

Having an alarm system will let you know if someone breaks in or tried to break in.
Appropriate signage will deter casual thieves.
Video cameras will at least record what is happening and hopefully get pictures of the perpetrators and their vehicle.
Motion activated lights will also act as a deterrent after dark.

Police response time for a break in, outside one of the boroughs or cities, may not be fast enough to catch a thief in the act so you need to take all the precautions you can.

Having an alarm system will let you know if someone breaks in or tried to break in. - ADT is who I've been using for the 13 years owning this home....

Appropriate signage will deter casual thieves. - Let 'em learn the hard way!! Most don't pay any mind to the signs anyway.

Video cameras will at least record what is happening and hopefully get pictures of the perpetrators and their vehicle. - Ring cameras work beautifully for this!!

Motion activated lights will also act as a deterrent after dark. - Have those as well and my Ring camera has motion lights attached to it....

The video quality of the Ring cameras is exceptional and very clear....highly recommend them!!

We have of the above plus 2 protective dogs. I always say if you can get and passed the dogs good luck on level three cause we’re waiting.

Seriously doubt that all you claim is an issue for 99.999% of those living in the region. Oddly enough, when this stuff happens, the "random" aspect tends to fade fast, once the investigation starts. I had a neighbor, down here in southcentral PA who was deeply concerned that some innocent local was randomly shot in the chest by a random perp, in broad daylight. This happened on my favorite bike riding trail, in a very safe town. I thought a minute, then told the neighbor that nothing about what he saw in the media, at this point, is remotely factual, and we will see what happens in a few days. Well, it seems that some tweeker got capped with a small caliber handgun, at a drug house, by his dealer. In the finest of schemes, he decided to stroll on down to the rail trail and make up a good story, with his meth head girlfriend as a "witness", before calling 911. Since neither of these two idiots were the kind that were getting accepted to medical school any time soon, it only took a bit for the local cops to get the real story out of these dolts.
