We had friends of our fly down this past August for a week & they're wine conn-o-sewers!!

After we picked them up from the airport, 1st stop was the liquor store to get wines. They bought 12 bottles & we were to have "wine-tastings"...

Well, they keep a "log" & write down "hi-notes", "low-notes", "after-taste", all this involved stuff. Bill & I participated in these "tastings", & they all tasted the same to us!! They're mentioning the "tobacco" notes here & "hints of raspberry" there & crap, & all I taste is dry wine!!

Other than a few "unusual-flavored" wines (like Brotherhood's Holiday & May wine), I'm happier with a Corona or Red Stripe!!

As I said on another thread, guess I'm just a classy white-trash boy!!

btw...have y'all tried Brotherhood's Black Ginseng wine?? They have a red & a black. To me, the red tastes like Nyquil, but the black's got an unusual "earthy" flavor!! (Brotherhood's another stop on our itinerary next month!!)

my whole point is different strokes for different folks...I point out some good
affordable wineries and wine...everyone has different tastes...not everyone
is going to go for a $20.00 bottle...plenty of inexpensive wines that are good..
it's all the indiviuals taste...I DON'T NEED A SOMMELIER OR WINE EXPERT TO TELL ME WHAT IS GOOD OR NOT...personal preference thats all...

Under $15 I really, really like the 2006 W. B. Bridgman Cellars Merlot Yakima Valley.

A few others:

2005 Château Mont-Redon Côtes du Rhône Abeille-Fabre
2006 J.Lohr Chardonnay Riverstone
2006 Hugh Hamilton Shiraz Jim Jim

A little more expensive ($15-25):

2006 Adelsheim Willamette Valley Auxerrois
2001 Marqués de Cáceres Rioja Reserva
2005 Mutt Lynch Winery Merlot "Merlot Over and Play Dead"

$25-50:

2004 Buoncristiani OPC Claret
1999 Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs
2005 Del Dotto Sangiovese
2005 Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay Reserve

$50-100:

2002 Jarvis Winery Lake William
2003 Domaine Carneros Le Reve Blanc de Blancs Brut
2005 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Bottled
(I could keep going here for another hour!)

$100 and up:

2005 Quintessa
2001 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d'Ampuis
Screaming Eagle 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon
