Wilkes-Barre has FAR too many distinct neighborhoods for a city of such a small stature.

NORTH WILKES-BARRE

Parsons: Located just north of the Cross-Valley Expressway, near to Hollenback Golf Course, with a tiny "downtown" area along George Avenue that includes Schiel's Market (take W-B Blvd. north out of downtown, and you'll end up right in Parsons). Working-class neighborhood with quiet streets and low crime.

Miners Mills: Located between the Mohegan Sun Casino and Parsons and home to Penn-Lee Footwear and a few other notable small businesses. Similar in atmosphere to Parsons. Head down East Main Street from the casino, and you'll be right in Miners Mills in a few seconds flat.

Pine Ridge Estates: New subdivision located on the border between Parsons and Miners Mills.

Parsons Manor: Middle-aged residential subdivision located just east of Parsons near Laird Street.

North End: Northernmost blocks of North Main, Madison, and North Washington Streets. Home to Cork Restaurant and a slew of churches along North Main Street.

I'll let Karnak, Chefkey, and W-B Proud do the rest of the city so I don't hog all of the glory!

Couldn't agree with you more lol. however... if you check out Perth Amboy, NJ on wikipedia.. city of ~40,000 (just like w-b), and about 7 or 8 sq miles (just like w-b).. many many neighborhoods... only difference is that perth amboy is a very hispanic city .. nice vibrant downtown tho.

Can anyone put maxwell St in one of these areas in W-B? or is it not in the North End lol... im writing this stuff down.. putting it on a map of the city and tacking it on my wall at work.

Maxwell Street runs parallel to Scott Street near Business Route 309, right? That would safely be the "East End." Anything bounded very loosely by Coal Street, W-B Blvd., Northampton Street, and 309 would be The Heights. (Perhaps East South Street would be a better southern boundary for there though).

Iron Triangle is near the Heights - not sure of the boundries. And isn't there the Goose Island or is that not WB? Rolling Mill Hill, Barney Farms I think and also the Riverside section which is the better part of South Wilkes Barre.

Barney Farms is where the mayor lives. It's an upscale subdivision adjacent to Riverside Park, a more well-established middle-class part of South Wilkes-Barre. Goose Island and Iron Triangle are both indeed in Wilkes-Barre, as is Rolling Mill Hill. 40,000 people. 1,000 neighborhoods. Go figure!
