Congratulations! I live just across the river and have many friends/relatives in West Pittston. You made a fine choice.

SOME South Wilkes-Barre neighborhoods are quiet and pleasant, but it's pretty easy to go from a good block to a bad block in a hurry with the notorious drug activity in that end of town.

I moved from S. Wilkes Barre to the Heights. I have to say I feel safer in the Heights than I did in SWB.

You'll love West Pittston. that is where I grew up. In Wyoming now, but moving to Panama City Beach in June.

Sorry it took so long to reply.

My sisters husband got a really good job out there. So, everyone is following her and the kids. My father was born and raised in PA & the same with my sister. So everyone is excited to be going back. I'm excited, but also nervous about moving. I've never lived anywhere cold... there is so much I don't know!

I love Wilkes-Barre, and unlike some others, I don't mind South, depending on where.
However the corner of Walnut and Carey is a place that I suggest you avoid. Really pretty bad and bordering closely are not too great.

StealCityRising has a an area bounded by Carey, Academy and one other street, that I used for a guideline when looking for a home. We dubbed the area "The Triangle of Death"

Most of Wilkes-Barre, including most of South is safe and pleasant.
You can do better than that particular area though, With ease.

I agree with Sheena. Not a great area. I'm talking about those few blocks. NOT all of S. Wilkes-Barre.
