I really wish my lease was up soon because I'd just propose the three of us rent a nice 3-BR townhome somewhere in Reston. I have a friend who is now renting the entire third floor of a townhome in Herndon for $600/month, and two other dudes are renting one bedroom each on the second floor for the same price. She pays roughly half the rent I do for my 1-bedroom unit, and while she gets luxury I get a place that's falling apart. I think if I'm still in NoVA next year I will just look for a roommate and get a 2-BR apartment in a high-rise in Ballston so I can be near Metro, my office, 66, and DC. I'm sure I could find a nice 2-BR place there for under $2,500/month.

No, I haven't! The panic hasn't set in just yet because I have 3 more weeks here, and then I have temp room and board for my first 2 weeks there.
I look everyday for something, somewhere.

Katyusha, RR might have a point. If we pool our efforts, we might be able to do something better than what we are doing individually right now.

Send me a DM if you might be interested. Maybe we can exchange info and see what we can do together.

May 2011. I think I'm going to at that time look for roomies to split a 3-bedroom or 4-bedroom place in Reston.

You know what's funny, though? I just noticed at the top of all the roomate ads on craigslist, it states, "Stating a discriminatory preference in a housing post is illegal - please flag discriminatory posts as prohibited"

So while they can just not choose to take you as a roomate, they really aren't allowed to advertise that they only want women/men. Flag 'em!
Actually, I may just take your advice and start flagging all of these discriminatory ads. Just tonight in addition to being swamped with the "FEMALES ONLY" ads I've also seen ads for flight attendants only, political activists only, etc. What if you're a professional male? Where are we supposed to live? Ashburn? YUCK! I've also seen 1-BR ads targeting "Single occupant only." Can they discriminate against married couples like that? What is with NoVA?!

If someone wants ONE roommate, rather than two, why would that be discrimination against married people? Sharing an apartment with one other person is very different than sharing it with two people.
Can't people decide how many people they want to live with and who they want for a roommate? Would it be illegal to say that you don't want to live with child molesters or gay haters or felons or those without a job? Or must everyone accept whoever applies to share an apartment or house? No one would ever take a chance on renting to someone they didn't know.

I should have specified with this particular item that I've seen ads for 1-BR apartments in which the landlord (not roomie) would prefer a "single occupant only." I see this as being unnecessarily discriminatory towards married couples who may be in the market for the same 1-BR unit.

When push comes to shove I'm going to post my OWN ad under "Housing Wanted" on CraigsList because literally 50% of the ads on there are discriminatory in some way, shape, or form. I've looked at ads in various cities, and so far the NoVA section is by far the worst offender of this.
