Hi All! I am looking for a 3 bedroom apt in Reston/Herndon. We went and looked at Archstone Reston Landing and loved it. Has anyone lived there or currently lives there? I am just wondering how it is as a resident.. what they dont tell you when you about the complex? Thanks!

Isn't that the place where RR used to live? If so, as I recall from seeing his posts over the past year they have one big problem: they offer really good rents for the first year, and then jack it up quite a bit when you renew the lease. Which may or may not be a big deal (especially if you're just renting for a year or you don't mind moving once the rates go up). You might want to send him a DM to get more of the scoop on living there.

I just moved from there a couple months ago. I was there for two years and didn't have any major problems. Overall, the experience was good. My biggest pet peeve was inconsiderate people who would ding my car with their car doors on a fairly regular basis in the parking lot. I probably would have renewed if not for the 10% rent increase. If you are staying for a year only it will probably be a solid choice...beyond that expect a pretty hefty rent increase for renewal.

Actually, Normie, I was in Archstone Charter Oak, where my rent was rising from $1,135/month to $1,325/month (a difference of $190/month or 17%). Several of my neighbors and I voted with our feet and left due to this steep rent increase, the frequent maintenance issues (it seems like most places built in this area in the 1970s are in shabby shape due to poor construction in that era), the passive/aggressive staff, etc. The complex offered nothing. We had no fitness center. We had no pool. We had lax security (not that this was one of the "hoods" in Reston, but still). I live now in a comparably-sized and -appointed unit for $1,100/month. I also now have a 24-hour fitness center, lighted tennis courts, a huge pool, friendly leasing staff, and a park-like setting adjacent to Lake Fairfax. I can still walk to Reston Town Center or Lake Anne. Archstone Charter Oak was horribly overpriced.

There are two Archstone complexes in Reston. The one the OP is referencing is along Baron Cameron Avenue (the 606) near Trader Joe's and Silver Diner. It is a gated community. I have a friend who just moved out of there and is indifferent towards the place; he neither loved nor hated it. I feel this same sense of ambivalence towards Reston in general due to its sterility and lack of community/neighborliness, but I digress.

In any event welcome to our Mauve Wonderland!
