Hi,
We are moving from Florida to NoVa. Very likely son will attend school on Waples Mill Road in Fairfax -- south of 66 north of 50. Can you recommend areas/neighborhoods that are within a 5-7 mile radius?

I noticed some rentals allow section 8 (public assistance) housing. I do not want to live in a community that is primarily section 8 housing.

we are looking to spend about $2200 (or less). I'm wondering if this put us in the section 8 arena?

I appreciate any advice you can give.

thanks bunches.

From my experience, there are section-8 housing scattered inside regular "people who own their homes" type neighborhoods. I don't believe there is such a thing as section-8 neighborhoods. Maybe someone can verify.

I'm assuming the school is private or a daycare since you can't attend a public school unless you live within the school boundaries.

Penderbrook or Random Hills subdivision would be convenient locations

I read some where that most states are changing from the old school thought of putting all the section 8 together. They are now spreading out section 8. Apparently if you put all section 8 together, then people are less likely to strive to improve themselves and their lives. If you spread section 8 out, then section 8 works like it was designed to and helps people get back on their feet and improve their lives.

yes, he would be going to Oak Valley; he has ADD/Learning disabilities... Thanks Middlin for the suggestions.

Yes, i believe the section 8 are spread out now, but often they will still be in an area that is within a certain dollar amount. I don't know how much section 8 recipients get for housing; at our $2200 month, are we competing for the same housing. Should we increase our housing budget. We can provided I find work in the area.

thank you for all your input. It's really appreciated!

Fairfax City is a nice area, very diverse. I live there.
Wouldn't worry about this whole Section 8 thing.
Hope you like it here.
