Yes snuffy this is true. My neighbors tree split in half, I'll never forget the horrible sound it made when it did. Well anyway we had to go through our insurance because it landed on our property!!!!

Does that affect your rate? I know I've read and heard that claims do, and some companies were dropping people after ONE claim.

Don't try to sue your neighbor. Aside from the fact that it won't contribute to neighborhood harmony, you will lose. Falling trees are considered an act of God and everyone's on their own with the man upstairs. The exception is if your neighbor knew his tree was in poor condition and at risk of falling, but didn't do anything about it.

Glad to hear that everyone is ok. If there isn't more than $1000 of damage/work I would be hesitant to call the insurance company as it can affect your rate.
