A deer hound from Warrenton won Best in Show at the 135th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. What a beautiful animal, and how cool that it was a local dog. Yup, people here really love dogs.

Are there any good areas for dogs apart from the dog park in Shirlington where dogs can be off leash? Are there any dog beaches around? (My dog loves water).

I went to a fun dog show at Morven Park near Leesburg years ago. Someone who was showing Irish Wolfhounds - which are probably even bigger than Scottish Wolfhounds - noticed that I had one free hand (I was with a six-year-old at the time) and asked me (not really waiting for my answer) if I could tend to 3-4 of them while she went off to enter one of her dogs in a competition. These dogs are really "gentle giants," but also very strong.

Not only that, but hounds NEVER win!! Only 4 hounds have won BIS since 1924.

You want the thread with the doggie splash info. I'll see if I can find it. It's in here somewhere.

Editing to add I found it and bumped it for you. Look for the thread called Dog Parks in Nova.

If a dog from Nova is a superstar, does that make him a supernova?

You can say "The ***** won" and not get in trouble for it.

Added later:

Whoops! I spelled it out and it was automatically filled in with asterisks even though it is what female dogs are called.

At some sites you can't even use a common nickname...you have to type Richard!
