Remember the tags on pillows, cushions, etc. that said "Do not remove under penalty of law"? I cut them off all the time.

My NoVA true confessions:

- I hate football; I really hate the Redskins; and I really, really hate Redskins training camp. I know I'm supposed to love it because it brings dollars into my county, but whatever.

- I don't like Vienna. It's one of the last places in NoVA that I would want to live. Great Falls too.

- I lived in the "prestigious" Haycock-Longfellow-McLean pyramid for four years and DIDN'T EVEN HAVE CHILDREN.

- When I first started commuting to Reston in 1999, I didn't have a Smart Tag yet, and I worked the 1pm-midnight shift. A few times I didn't have enough money for the toll and I would just throw a handful of pennies into the basket and gun it. (Of course later we would all discover that the cameras were non-functional anyway.)

- Not long ago, coming home from the city, I spazzed out and missed the exit from the GW Parkway onto 123. I took the next exit instead. The one that says "CIA / Federal Highway Administration." I may have peed my pants a little when the men approached my car with weapons. That exit sign really should say, "CIA / FHWA ONLY."

- I'd rather take my kids to play at the community center in Sterling Park than to any of the playgrounds in Ashburn. I feel more comfortable there. Same goes for the library.

Margery, because of your wonderful advice, grace, and wisdom in your posts, I'm afraid I've put you on a very high pedestal. This is such a crushing disappointment to me.

(Just joking about the disappointment. Not about your great posts!)

cdmurphy, you must be one of the coolest persons ever.

You also shared the "Arlington Rap" video here, for which my daughter and I will be forever grateful.

I do too. I bought a bath mat that says that, and after the "do not remove under penalty of law" it says "except for the consumer" which would be me, so I ripped that one off too! Haha. I think most of them say if you buy it you can rip it off, but not go ripping them off in the store, LOL I'm cracking up now for some reason

My family moved here (the metro area) when I was 10. I didn't know Arlington was a place and not just a cemetery until I was 22.

Over the years I've met others who grew up in the same county as I. Because of our embarrassment, there is an understood pact between us that this fact about our lives is a secret that should remain known only to us.

I never heard of the Greenway until a friend moved to Leesburg.

For a long time I thought all those VT stickers on cars referred to Vermont. I figured Virginia had a lot of skiers.

There are people who think that Sterling Park is this horrible crime-ridden place full of the unwashed poor and/or immigrants, and yet I feel more comfortable taking my children there than I do taking them to Ashburn amenities. Let's just say that I find the atmosphere less judgmental and more welcoming of parents who don't conform to a certain aesthetic. And I have never felt unsafe in Sterling Park.

Way back when we first moved here my daughter wanted to open a bank account at Chevy Chase Bank. But I wouldn't let her because I thought it was some sort of fake company started by the comedian.
