I'm finally making my first home purchase and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a real estate attorney to look over the sales contract and also help/be present at closing?

We used a real estate agent who helped us find the home and is doing the paperwork etc., but my understanding was that they cannot give legal advice since they're not attorneys. Also, even though the agent represents me, she has the SALE in mind (for that nice commission). So I thought for my biggest purchase, it would be wise to have some legal advice for all that small print.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, especially from those who have purchased homes in Nova and know the scoop. Do I even need an attorney to look at the contract? Did you get one with your purchase?

The time to have a contract reviewed is before you sign it. If you already have a ratified contract your agent can explain it to you, that is not giving legal advice.

Where are you buying? I can recommend attorneys in the Sterling-Leesburg area, which I will do privately in a DM. You should be looking for a real estate attorney, they will be familiar with the contract.

We haven't signed anything yet except the offer. The contract is being written up by the seller which is why I was wondering if we should have someone look over it.

We're buying in Alexandria, so I'm not sure if Sterling-Leesburg would be too far away. What do you think?
