Anyone in the area using VOIP successfully? If so, which VOIP company are you using and what ISP are you using? Any issues, recommendations, suggestions? Thanks in advance!

We use Verizon VOIP phones at my office, and I haven't had any issues with it either - it works just like any other phone for me.

I think the technology is good enough now that you don't have those issues that occurred when VOIP first hit the market.

Thanks for the comments!

Anyone else use it in a residential environment? Seems like besides Vonage, there aren't any "big" names.

My brother uses Magic Jack over his Comcast internet and really likes it. I can't tell any difference in quality when he calls me.

Using Ooma. http://www.ooma.com/products/ooma-telo

Basically you buy the unit, and you'll never have to pay for anything (othe than taxes and long distance) again!

Does your computer have to be on 24 hours a day, or is something like Magic Jack self contained with just RJ11 output and plugs into electrical outlet?

It is self contained with an network port and phone jack. Network port goes to your router and the phone jack, well, goes to your phone

We have Magic Jack for a second phone line for our daughter and have not had any problems with it. We paid something like $100 for 5 years' of service.

Is Magic Jack similar to Ooma? The website is hardly informative. How does it work? Thanks.
