Hey All,

I wanted to know if anyone knew of a good Mongolian BBQ restaurant in the area. I like the ones where you build a bowl and have them cook it in front of you. The only one that pops up in google is the Genghis Grill. They look kind of "chain"y. Has anyone tried this one out? Also, with the decent Asian population here, I would assume that there may be a more authentic (or at least authentic-looking) alternative. Anyone have any advice?

BD's Mongolian BBQ in Bethesda is quite tasty, but it's very chain-y. It's also Maryland, but Bethesda is really nice and fun to walk around in.

Tony Cheng's in Chinatown if very good. I used to work very close by, and we would go there for special lunches. It's been around forever or at least for 20 years or so since I started going. (I think it's better than the one in Bethesda, although I am a vegetarian so I cannot comment on the quality of the meat at either place.)

Tony Cheng Restaurant, Washington DC

There's a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant in Reston Town Center called BigBowl. Its similar to bd's Mongolian Grill (not in DC).

A friend from Mongolia invited me to the Genghis in Alexandria. Made me think it was authentic. We haven't gone yet, but will soon.

I frequent the one in Manchester Lakes. It's definitely Americanized in the layout and "how it works". It is *not* a buffet but I can't see any normal people wanting seconds as the portions are quite large (you do pick your ingredients after all)

The food is very good but the service is sometimes subpar.

Golden China in Sterling (plaza on Sterling Blvd, across from CVS).

The Chinese buffet there is the worst I have ever seen (only 10 dishes or so plus some desserts), but the Mongolian BBQ is quite good.

Asian Bistro at Tyson's Corner Center (old food court, downstairs) is pretty good. I go there for lunch quite a bit. Tony Cheng's in Chinatown is my favorite, though.

I think Tony Cheng's in Chinatown is awful. They don't use fresh meat or fish. I've been there when they put thinly cut strips of still frozen or thawing steak and pork in the bins. The chefs then took the frozen meat and just threw it on the grill, so it ended up being very tough and a little bit nasty.
