Shortest: Alexandria (Seminary/395) to Kingstowne - around 20 minutes
Longest: College Park to Kingstowne - 26 miles: 60-90 minutes in the morning, 90-120 in the evening. It was a summer internship the year they were redoing the WW bridge, so construction made it even worse.

longest - baltimore City to alexandria (we moved pretty soon)

Shortest - North Bolton Hill to charles center in Downtown baltimore. It was about a 30 to 40 minute walk, give or take, or there was a bus. It was I guess about a 5 minute drive, but I never drove.

Shortest: when I lived in the city, my commute was just under 4 blocks. It was a 10 minute walk, maybe a couple of minutes by bike (I rarely biked in). I got rid of my car and didn't get another one for several years... until we moved to the burbs.

Longest: my current commute . While my commute is better than lots of people's, keep in mind I'm coming from a walk to work, so it seems bad. It takes me 25-35 minutes driving each way. 25 in the mornings, 35 in the evenings.

Shortest: Leesburg to Reston takes ~20 min (the greenway is worth every penny!)

My DH's commute is like 2 minutes...lucky guy!

Shortest commute:
Cleveland Park to Farragut North on the red line. 25 minutes door to door Ah, city life. 2008-09

Longest commute:
My current commute is W Springfield to NY Avenue in NE DC. If I drop DD at daycare it is 90 minutes in the am (drive to Springfield Metro 2 transfers to NYA), and about 60-70 minutes in the evening. At least I get a seat on the metro! I'm aiming to read 50-100 books this year

Longest: Ballston to Ft McNair DC, 35 minutes.

Current: Glen Carlin to Ballston, 8 minutes in car or 15 minutes on bike. Yes, I'm spoiled.

My shortest "commute" was when I was telecommuting from home. But I guess my shortest true commute was working one town over when I was in NJ. I could be home in 7 minutes.

Longest commutes: Take your pick, and they've all been in the last few years...

Great Falls, VA to Capitol Hill (currently takes 70-110 minutes each way)

Montclair NJ to Princeton, NJ (50 miles each way; took 90 minutes but part of that was by train)

Montclair, NJ to East Bronx, NY (only about 25 miles away, but with having to drive across the GW Bridge and on the Cross Bronx Expressway it often took 90 minutes each way).

I would love a shorter commute, which is why I'm looking for a place to live inside the beltway and hopefully near a metro stop. I don't even want to think about all the time I've wasted commuting.
