What's been your longest and your shortest commute?

Where to where...how long did it take from door-to-door?

Shortest duration: From 6th and E NE in DC to Natl. Press Building in DC (Metro Center). Roughly 3 miles maybe. I'd sometimes ride my bike. Took me probably 20 minutes that way. On Metro, probably 30. Walking, pushing an hour, I think--but very pleasant.

Longest duration: Either my current commute (22205 to Ft. Belvoir South--26 miles via Spout Run/GWMP--40-45 minutes) or my old commute from 22207 to Rockville, MD--about the same distance and time.

Longest: Manassas, 20112 just off of Route 234 near Dumfries to Springfield. It was about 16 miles and usually took about 45 minutes.

Shortest: My current commute. 1.5 miles here in Springfield.

Shortest: Bailey's Crossroads (S. Frederick St., Arlington County) to Merrifield (Route 50 and Gallows Rd.) About 20 minutes by car. (It was glorious, until they moved our office out to Reston. And then to Ashburn.) This was 1998-1999.

Longest: Brambleton (Ashburn area) to L'Enfant Plaza. 15 minute drive to Herndon-Monroe Park and ride (using the Greedway); 30 minute Fairfax Connector ride to West Falls Church Metro; 45 minute ride from WFC Metro to L'Enfant Plaza Metro. 1.5 hours each way (usually a little longer due to the usual Metro failures). This was 2003-2006.

Longest - Alexandria/Bailey's Crossroads to near White House in late 2001 through 2002 (post-911), by car. 40 minutes to an hour generally, but 2 hours at least once a week. I told myself that I never wanted to waste my life like this again.

Shortest - Near Convention Center to the Mall area. <15 minutes walking, car, or bus.

Longest--a temp job I had when I first moved back here. Herndon to McLean. It took me about 20 minutes (every once in awhile 30-40 minutes if there was a traffic jam).

Shortest--right now I live about a mile from work, and many days I work at home and people from the office drop work off for me. I usually walk, and it takes about 15-20 minutes.

Longest: Up in the Philly 'burbs it took me 55 minutes to go 11 miles. Ridiculous. Worst commute ever too, I managed to find countless back roads though. Didn't help much w/ the time.

Shortest: When I had a part-time job at Sears in Manassas about 3 years ago, it was about a 4 minute commute, had to be there at 6am.

My commute now is from Manassas to Chantilly, it seems like such a breeze compared to the 1st one!

Gaithersburg (20878) to NE DC (2002) - On a Saturday it would take 35 minutes to drive. Monday through Friday 90 - 120 minutes, with gusts up to 180 to drive. Metro and bus took 90 minutes, 7 days a week.

Shortest was College Park to Lanham, which took 10 to 15 minutes.

My shortest commute was downstairs. My longest commute was after we first moved from Reston to Lowes Island, but I still had an office in Reston. It was about 7 miles.
