Hello...I'm new to this forum, so please excuse me if this has already been answered.

I'm considering moving for work in McLean, VA. If so, I would like to purchase a house within a decent commute. We have 3 kids under the age of 4. Looking for a neighborhood that has lots of other young families and stay-at-home parents. Safe, vibrant area with lots to do. Prices in the $200-$350k range. Prefer single family home but will consider townhouses. We are not used to city-life, so further out in an affordable suburb is better.

Is this even possible in NoVa?

Thank You!!!

Not really. You will be able to find townhouses and maybe a couple SFHs in Springfield, but they will be from the 70s and 80s (or older).

What is your definition of decent commute? It really depends on what your requirements are - if you are looking for something built in the last 10 years you'll be looking past Centreville, likely into Prince William County (close to 1 hr commute into McLean).

a 1hr commute is acceptable. And so is a 70s-80s house. Right now we are living in a 60s house.

Most important is safety and other young families around.

You could get a 3-BR townhouse from 70s or 80s in Reston for $325-350K. You'd get Fairfax County schools and a commute that's under an hour and could be even better when Silver Line is completed.

Thank you both. I'll look into Reston JEB77, this could work with a nice down pymt and an excellent realtor.

you can get a decent/older SFH or nice/newer townhouse in Centreville for $350,000 or less or a decent older townhouse for mid $200's.
