No - I lived in the Atlanta area for 20 years and never once even thought about living in Peachtree City. I REALLY like the walking paths in Reston.

To the OP

we are similar in age, and our DD is in college, and we also like walkable quaint. you might find this thread interesting Where in NoVa would you point two empty nesters who like urban/walkable/quaint

OTOH our employment anchor is in DC, and we have no dogs, so our focus was different.

I'm not the most familiar with the area west of Reston. Like the walkability of Reston itself, though its not quaint, and has a bunch of chain stores. Some would suggest Herndon for a modicum of quantness. If reverse commuting works financially (ceteris paribus, RE is more expensive as you move towards the core) you might consider Vienna or Falls Church. Or (not really reverse commute) the old Town Fairfax area.

have you looked up Del Ray? It's a small neighborhood with lots of independent businesses. There are lots of old houses in the area and though it's minutes from natl. airport it is very quiet.

Brooklyndad, really enjoyed reading your thread ("Where in NOVA...") It was very enlightening and entertaining. If I had to guess, I would say you are a writer. JfromReston, I always appreciate your positive thoughts on Reston. With my husband's job being there, our budget, etc. it may be the best option for us. It is walkable, and that is a huge plus. Someone also mentioned the town center area of Herndon. That sounds like it could be a nice compromise. Being closer to the core would require us giving up about half of our furniture/belongings and doing some serious downsizing to find an affordable place, yet it sounds so appealing! So, so much to think about. I think we're about to drive our real estate agent crazy, but hey...that's her gig. We have a home finding trip at the end of the month. It will be interesting to finally see the area in person. As always, thank you, thank you! Love this forum!

We are moving to Reston! We found a lovely townhome that accepts our two dogs. Looking very forward to living in northern Va!
