We have accounts at the Citibank and BofA on Market Street in Leesburg. We also have an account at the NWFCU near Battlefield Pkwy. I have had the Citibank account for almost 10 years and opened it when I lived in NYC. I have had the NWFCU account since I was a kid - great rates. The BofA account was my husband's from before we were married. We will probably close that account soon in order to consolidate since I am more of the money manager than he is. No major issues with any of these. I would lean towards a bank that has locations all over so you don't get hit with the ATM fees if you need some cash. Never had issues with the Citibank or BofA accounts. The NWFCU ATMs are a bit more tricky to find.

Thanks. Even with the lack of ATM's, I think I'd prefer a good community bank. I just don't like the idea that I'd put my money in BofA and have no idea where it goes. I'd like to keep my money in the community. Does NWFCU have other branches in Northern VA? Are there any other local banks in Leesburg with other branches in VA?

There is no such thing as a "good bank" anymore.

Try to find a Credit Union you can belong to and go with that.

"Not for Profit" rulz.

NWFCU has branches in Chantilly, Herndon, Vienna, and Manassas, in addition to the new Leesburg location. Here's the link to their locations and ATMs: Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU) - Branch Locations & Hours

If you bank w/ NWFCU you can get money from 7-Eleven ATMs with no charge.

Most 7-Eleven ATMs will spit out $100 bills if you try and take out over $100 though.

I'd recommend BB&T, not exactly local (I think they are based out of SC), but smaller than BOA, etc. I have nothing but positive things to say about them. If you really want local then try a search on moveyourmoneyproject.org

It came up with Access National, Cardinal, EVB, First Citizens, John Marshall, Loudon Credit Union, Sonabank, Sandy Spring, Summit, The Middleburg Bank, United Bank, and Virginia Commerce.

How are you supposed to decide between those? Does anybody bank at any of them? United has 17 NOVA branches, Middleburg has 10 branches, Sona has 14 branches, Cardinal has 26 branches. I could search the others but it looks like # of locations won't be a problem with any of them.
