arabellava - I don't think you're in the same elementary school as we are in Vienna. My older daughter in 4th grade got a note last week that someone had a case in her grade. My 1st grader got no such note. My daughter doesn't know who it was that had it. They haven't checked all their heads. I know in the past - I think when she was in Kindergarten - it was going round and round, and they did do a full lice check for all the kids on several occasions. But I think when there's just a case or two they don't do that.

My daughter got it at the end of 2nd grade, but we didn't find out until a week after school ended. so we obviously didn't report it. We were actually on vacation when we found it. It was HORRIBLE! It took us over two weeks to finally get rid of every last one. We found a few on one of my other kids but we got to it quickly before it spread. A really good device that they sell at Walgreen's is the Robi comb. It zaps the bugs - even the tiny ones. But not the eggs. It's great as a check though after you think you've gotten them all.

If we never get lice again until we are 100 years old, it will be too soon. It was horrible! Good luck.

How often are they pulling her to be checked? And perhaps they are checking other kids but their effort to be discreet is working and your daughter doesn't realize other kids are being checked as well?

Have you discussed your concerns with her teachers?

Well- my child was screened again but by a doctor - this is really ticking me off. I called the principal but they all take off when school ends so no luck getting an explanation of how they are handling this.

Again- do they have the right to keep checking my child's hair without my permission or knowledge?

I guess I don't understand what the OP is so upset about. What's the problem with them checking? Wouldn't you rather find out sooner rather than later if lice reappears?

My child is the only being checked.

I feel your pain, as I've been there. but how do you really know that your child is the only one? Also what is the comment about the Dr? At school? Is your child telling you this? I can't imagine a Dr @ school looking for lice. A school nurse perhaps.

My child has been sent to the health room two days in a row. Came out clean of course since we did treat! But I do feel child is being singled out. And can they just keep doing this every day whenever they want??

Have you talked with her teacher, the clinic aide, or principal? If they are gone after contract hours, did you leave a message or email? I have a hard time I seeing a doctor in the schools checking her. Maybe a public health nurse, as they are assigned to schools but no public school I know of has the resources of a doctor on staff.

Children are constantly going in and out of classrooms, to the clinic, etc. throughout the day, just as many adults are in and out of classrooms. Is your child upset about this? I guess personally I would rather be "singled out" (your term, not mine) than to have the potential of it continuing. I feel you will get more accomplished with a good dialogue at the school than a dialogue here.

If the OP's kid is being singled out and checked for lice, such that other kids are aware of it, that is really inappropriate.

I remember when I was in elementary school, they checked everybody for lice. It was no secret if one of your classmates was found to be "Lice+". And well, you know how rotten kids can be, so use your imagination from there...
