Can anyone recommend a particularly good place to purchase a smallish oriental rug -- say 4 by 6?? I have been happy with Merrifield Oriental Rugs and have purchased there but was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations. I am looking for quality at a decent price. Have checked out the Bloomingdale sales and the quality is good but prices -- even on their "super" 75% sales -- are WAY too high IMO.

Old Town Alexandria used to have (and may still) loads of rug shops. Also check World Market, though. My wife found a bona fide Persian rug there for cheap. Evidently they didn't know what it was and had marked it way down.

I've seen this shop in Capitol Hill but not sure about prices:

Again, I have not purchased from either personally. The only oriental carpet I own is a well-worn piece I bought from a thrift shop (and I really love it). Good luck!
