It's not exactly painful to spend a few hours in Middleburg. I love that place! Between parades, you can get a hot chocolate at Mello Out and wander through the antique stores...

Agreed. It's supposed to be a nice day weatherwise. You could also go to Teddy's for pizza, the Upper Crust for bakery treats or lunch. In past years they've a had a horse and cart giving free hay rides.

Caladium, I'm not sure there's a "best" place to park - I think park where ever you can find it.

I heard people are getting there really early just for that purpose. Since I live in Middleburg and I know people that are riding in the parade, we're catching a ride with them...but I can't even begin to imagine how such a tiny town can accomodate parking for so many people.

My guess, is to get ready to hike a bit and park off one of the side streets right outside the main part of town.

Here's a link with all of the information you need to include activities, schedules, and parking.

Specifically, they open up the field on N. Pendleton Street to accomodate parking for all.

It is a great time, and an enjoyable day, especially if you a) have children, b) love dogs (bring yours, Middleburg is super dog friendly), or c) need to get some Christmas shopping done.

My daughter had the camera. This is one of the better shots of the hunt coming through.

Looks like fun! We didn't end up making it--minor family emergency needed attention instead. Maybe next year. Anyone else have photos?

I read over on facebook that there were a lot of complaints about the delay between the hunt coming through at 11 and the rest of the parade not starting until 2. Although the plan was that people would eat and shop in the interim, Middleburg simply can't accommodate the large crowds that the parade brings. People were exhausted and hungry and not happy about waiting three hours for the rest of the parade. Maybe they'll go back to the old schedule next year.
