We are beginning to get quotes but given our rather limited knowledge about these things, we are not able to make sense out of the wide range of quotes. This is what we need essentially:

* Finish a 240 sq. ft. room that is in its infancy (needs dry walls, insulation, flooring, ac/heat, etc).
* We would like to sound proof it.
* Have basic carpets installed.
* Get the necessary wiring done for a home theater.

What are we looking at (in terms of $s)?

How much of it are you planning to do yourself. Thats the most important first question. Labor is typically much more expensive than the materials itself.

If you are looking for a good carpet/flooring guy which isn't the "home depot" or "carpet lands" of the world I would go with G.E. Carpet. They've been around this area for 15 years and are pretty helpful and are one of the few mom and pop shops if you want to support that kinda thing. I liked that they were accommodating on setting up an in home measurement and consultation, they dont charge for it, and can do evening and weekend appointments if that works better for a work schedule.
