I wish they would put a Ferrel's type place back in over there. Remember the "Pig Trough"?

Back in the 80's, you could go to a movie, Time Out, shop and have ice cream at Ferrel's. That was fun.

It was Farrell's. We had one in my mall in Pennsylvania growing up. It was great for birthday parties! http://www.farrellsusa.com/history-of-fun.php

I think a flea market would be great for that mall.

Yes, the owners have told all the tenants to be out by June 30th. They will then spend two years tearing down the mall from the inside and totally renovating.

I plan to go over on the last day or two to see the final, deserted scene.

I do remember what a thriving mall this was in the 80s.

Oh, and in case anyone wasn't aware: Target, Macy's, and JCPenney will stay open. They own their space at the mall so aren't part of the demolition/renovation process -- although maybe they'll get exterior renovations to match the new mall? (I don't know that; am just speculating.)

Springfield Mall has really gone down hill over the years, mismanaged. I live close by springfield mall but go way out to Fair Oaks mall to shop.

So what are the plans for it now? What will it look like in 3 years? The links I am finding are old or no longer exist.

great memories there! Ice cream was great, I'd always have my birthday party there, they'd play the siren and start playing the big bass drum, good stuff!

Thanks. I'd like to see more of the plans.
10-20 years to complete the project is a lot longer than I would have expected, although the article states the mall should reopen in a couple.

The 10-20 years is for the overall plan which includes apartments, condos, office building, hotels ... rainbows and unicorns too ... I'll just be happy with having a good mall to shop at, thank you very much .
